Archibald J. Motley, Jr. (1891-1981) is considered one of the most important African American artists of this century. Motley's sensitive portraits and lively paintings of everyday street scenes document black urban life from the teens through the 1960s and make and important contribution to our understanding of his people and the times. This poster is a reproduction of Blues from 1929, and is from the collection of Archie Motley and Valerie Gerrard Browne.
