Home of Chicago’s White Sox (American League) baseball team, this south-side steel-framed, brick ballpark was designed by the same architect who designed Chicago’s north-side ballpark, Wrigley Field (home of Chicago’s National League team, the Chicago Cubs.) Fans were close to the players and the action on the field. Lack of upkeep and the effects of the elements took its toll on Old Comiskey. It was demolished in 1990 and replaced by a state of the art contemporary sports park. Origin of name Named for Charles A. Comiskey, owner of the White Sox team, which debuted in 1900. Comiskey was the only baseball player to become a team owner and, along with Byron Bancroft, co-founded the American League. Original Architect: Zachary Taylor Davis. Date completed: 1910. Date demolished: 1990.
